I grew up in New England with parents who designed houses. As a child, I drew and painted a few watercolors. I didn’t like one of them and tossed it in the trash. Later I saw it framed on the wall. My mother appreciated its simplicity.
At 18, I moved to California in search of fertile ground and eventually graduated from UC Berkeley in Art and Anthropology. Afterwards working in a cultural center, I designed posters and instigated a puppet theater.
Wanting a change, I decided to make a living on the road. Meandering up and down the coast of California, I drew mostly people and designed an occasional menu. Working in pen and ink was challenging.
After resettling, my focus shifted as I began to explore inner imagery. In art therapy classes and a Jungian dream group, I discovered ways to work with images which emerge from the Unconscious. Later I integrated these experiments with a fine art approach. Since then I’ve been painting intuitively.
I’ve sold my work in California, North Carolina, Ecuador and Portugal. I live in Tavira, Portugal.
